Milton Glaser - The Path to DiscoveryKinetic type, motion design, typography, AfterEffects, Audition
This 45 second piece of kinetic type animation is set to the voice of Milton Glaser. It leads you through his own process of realization during the creative process.
IOn the prompt’s request, I created an audio recording of Glaser speaking through his ideation pathway and broke it down into several steps. After timestamping a transcription of the audio, everything was made into a storyboard and style frames. I set the text to his voice track and worked toward the aim of doing homage to his classic style while keeping an energetic pace. Difficulty arose from the fact that Glaser is, well, old. He speaks very deliberately.
After multiple iterations and breakdown of the transcript, I was able to finalize the piece. The final change was adding the heart for which he’s most famous.
Production on this project made me more aware of the power of storyboarding. Ideation in the earliest phases of kinetic typography sets a groundwork for the rest of a product that can act as guard rails when things start to get finnicky, saving so much time and effort.
